WARRANT at XPONENTIAL Europe 2026: Remote Shipping on Inland Waterways
March 26, 2026During the AISS Conference at XPONENTIAL Europe 2026 in Düsseldorf, Dr. Frédéric Etienne Kracht from DST – Development Centre for Ship Technology and Transport Systems, presented the latest progress and ambitions of the WARRANT project as part of the EU project pitch session.
The presentation introduced WARRANT’s objectives in supporting resilient, secure, and future-oriented automation technologies for waterborne transport, while addressing the technical and operational challenges linked to autonomous and remotely operated vessels.
Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of reliable and resilient communication infrastructures to ensure safe vessel operations, as well as the value of real-world validation through demonstrators and living labs to assess operational feasibility and user acceptance. The session also highlighted that regulatory harmonization, cybersecurity, and interoperability remain key priorities for enabling large-scale deployment and commercialization of automated waterbornetransport solutions.
Future of Waterborne Transport Automation
Through its participation in the conference, WARRANT strengthened its visibility within the European maritime and inland waterway community while fostering valuable stakeholder exchange on the future of automation in waterborne transport.
