WARRANT at the 3rd Specialist Conference on “New Technologies and Test Fields for Waterways and Ports”

We are pleased to announce that the WARRANT project was represented at the 3rd Specialist Conference on “New Technologies and Test Fields for Waterways and Ports”!

On 17–18 June 2026, Dr. Frédéric Etienne Kracht from DST – Development Centre for Ship Technology and Transport Systems presented DST’s work on the remote-control research vessel ELLA and its virtual and physical demonstrators for automated inland navigation at the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany (BSH) in Rostock.

Supporting Resilient Automated and Remote Vessel Operations

The presentation highlighted how these research platforms are being used within WARRANT to investigate the resilience of automated and remotely operated vessels under challenging conditions, including degraded sensor data and disrupted communication links.

By combining simulation environments, physical demonstrators and real-world trials, WARRANT supports the development and validation of safer, more reliable and resilient automation and remote-operation technologies for inland navigation.

The conference brought together research organisations, industry, public authorities and infrastructure operators to exchange knowledge on digitalisation, automation and innovative test environments. A key takeaway was the importance of closely integrating virtual testing with physical demonstrators and trials under realistic operating conditions to accelerate the safe transfer of maritime innovations into practice.
